Donate to help a family that lost their business in the recent Green Lake fire

A collection cup is out at Mockingbird Books and Finch Café (7220 Woodlawn Ave NE) to benefit a family who lost their business in a recent Green Lake fire. The fire, which was caused by by an overheated power cord, gutted a computer sales business at 7214 Woodlawn Ave NE. News from Green Lake's Seattle Canoe and Kayak Club

We received the following from the Seattle Canoe and Kayak Club, which is located at the Green Lake Small Craft Center at the southwest corner of Green Lake (5900 West Green Lake Way N): This Saturday, March 27, we’re having a pancake breakfast fundraiser and an open house for new members. We’re also in the middle of a huge plant sale, which on delivery day will fill up the aqua theater next month. We’ve had two members go to the Olympics. Seattle’s electric buses may soon be replaced with diesel hybrids

The Green Lake Community Council recently heard from Jonathan Dong, Senior Transportation Planner at the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT). Dong attended the meeting in order to share information with Green Lake residents about a proposal to replace Seattle’s electric trolley buses with diesel hybrid buses. Electric trolleys run on fourteen King County Metro routes, including a route servicing the area south of Green Lake, Route 44.   In addition, SDOT had been planning to expand the trolley system to Route 48, which runs through the northeast part of the neighborhood. Fire trucks at Circa Green Lake

Did you see some fire trucks at the Circa Green Lake building this evening (Saturday, March 20, 2010)? At 8:48 p.m., two units were called to the building, located at 6900 East Green Lake Way N. After hearing word of the fire trucks over twitter, we gave Turnpike Pizza a call. The helpful staff at Turnpike confirmed that fire trucks had arrived and residents were asked to evacuate the building.  By 9:15 p.m., however, residents were given the all-clear to re-enter the building, and, as far as the staff of Turnpike could tell, there had never been an actual fire. …
