Green Lake Library to lose Teen Services Librarian position

What do you think? (3 Comments) February 1, 2010 at 3:06PM

IMG_0406.JPGThis Wednesday, February 3, marks a sad day for patrons of the Green Lake Branch of The Seattle Public Library (7364 E. Green Lake Dr. N.).

Fifteen branches of the Seattle Public Library, including the Green Lake Branch, will be experiencing drastic cuts to opening hours, including all-day closures on Fridays and Sundays.

In addition, we confirmed today that the Green Lake Branch will be losing an entire staff position.  Sadly, there will no longer be a Teen Services Librarian at our neighborhood library.

Jennifer Patterson, Assistant Director for North Branches, explained to us that Teen Services Librarians from other branches will be working in teams to cover the entire library system.  She assured us there will still be teen programs and teen outreach at the Green Lake Branch.

However, no teen events are currently listed at the Green Lake Branch on The Seattle Public Library Calendar of Events and Classes.

Neighborhood teens, we encourage you to not give up on the library.  There are some great library events happening elsewhere in the city – check the events calendar here and Metro’s online trip planner here.

Great teen programs are happening elsewhere: we spotted this notice on the Green Lake Branch's bulletin board.

This makes me really sad, but thanks for keeping the community informed!
