In case you haven’t yet heard, Tangletown’s Luau Polynesian Lounge (2253 North 56th St) is closing its doors tonight.
We’ve been keeping an eye out for any news about what may be going into it’s place, and we finally spotted something, via Seattle Weekly’s excellent blog Voracious:
“The new owners are reportedly turning Luau into a Tini Big’s-style cocktail lounge called the Pour House.”
We’ll be on the lookout for more info and will let you know what we find. In the meantime, check out this heartfelt little eulogy from Voracious Karaoke Korrespondent Jeff Roman.

Yay! We literally live right next door, and we've been hoping for a martini type place.
The Luau had most definitely lost it's spark in the last few years. It was fabulous when it first opened. I'm not sure I like the idea of a bar/lounge only in such a residential area. I would rather see another restaurant. A breakfast joint would have been great!
That is EXACTLY what we said! A breakfast place would have been amazing.
This is the second time that the Luau has closed. I don't thik that have a”barlounge only” is an option. Washington State liquor laws require a certain percentage of booze-to-food sales to getkeep a Class H license. So they will have some kind of food there.
Bars only have to offer some kind of food these days to have a Class H. I don't think anyone has ever bought one of Hazelwood's $15 frozen dinners in Ballard.
I sure hope they have a decent menu though, it would be great to have another close option besides Latona Pub and Tangle Town.
We LOVE Luau and so sad to see it go! Hope the next place is as friendly and fun, looking forward to checking it out! I agree though, a breakfast joing would be great too. Has anyone tried Scarlett Tree on 65th?
We are going to miss Luau! My Fiancee and I LOVE the Tangletown area and especially in the warmer months love going to Luau for cocktails and happy hour. Such a great, fun and light atmosphere with good drinks and excellent friendly service. I hope the new place isn't all dark and too fancy-pants for the area!
