From the City of Seattle Department of Neighborhoods:
February 6, 2010 marks Seattle’s 16th annual Neighbor Appreciation Day. It is a time to reach out to our neighbors, create new bonds, and express thanks to our neighbors. Community organizations, businesses and residents across Seattle come together on February 6 (or the week of) to celebrate this great day!
There are three ways you can participate:
- Organize a neighborhood event such as a block party, open house, potluck, or work party to recognize the day and your neighbors. It can be as big or simple as you want. If you are having an event, contact Wendy Watson at wendy.watson@seattle.gov (206-684-0719) and tell us about it. If you want to post your event to our online calendar, visit www.seattle.gov/neighborhoods/calendar, hit the link for “Submit an Event” on the upper left-hand column, read the “How to Submit…” and policy guidelines, and complete the form. You’ll note on the form there is a section called DON Programs, so be sure to select Neighbor Appreciation Day.
- Use our FREE Neighbor Appreciation Day greeting cards to acknowledge the good work of your neighbors and others who help make your neighborhood a special place to live. The cards feature winning artwork from the annual Neighbor Appreciation Day Student Art Contest. To order greeting cards in bulk for larger events, contact Wendy Watson at wendy.watson@seattle.gov (or 206-684-0719). Beginning in mid-January, you can pick up cards at Seattle City Hall, Seattle Department of Neighborhoods office, the 13 Neighborhood Service Centers, community centers, and libraries throughout Seattle.
- Attend one of the many community activities listed on our online calendar. Visit http://www.seattle.gov/neighborhoods/appday/ for more information and a listing of special Neighbor Appreciation Day events.
Join Seattle Department of Neighborhoods and the thousands of community members across our city in celebration of what makes Seattle great – our neighbors! For more information, visit www.seattle.gov/neighborhoods/appday or call 206-684-0719.
If you have questions, please contact Wendy Watson at wendy.watson@seattle.gov (206-684-0719) or Lois Maag at lois.maag@seattle.gov (206-615-0950).
