Garden hose stretched across Latona Ave NE stops traffic

We just received the following report from “a concerned neighbor.”  We’re assuming that this was a prank?  Anyone else know why someone would stretch a garden hose across a busy street? Around 9:45 we heard and saw for a split-second a college-aged, white male at our front door on Latona in the 5700 block. We opened the door to find a garden hose nozzle attached to the door’s handle.  We looked out the window to see two cars stopped in the road because the hose was stretching across Latona at eye level. If those drivers hadn’t spotted it someone could…

Lots of police activity in Green Lake tonight

We just received the following tip: At approximately 8:30 PM tonight, there were several police cars circling the community center as well as the walking trail around the lake. They now have a road block at approximately 72nd and 5th Ave NE. Any idea as to what’s going on?? There were also reports on the GreenlakeMoms yahoo group about “police cars all over GreenLake in the area of 1st, 80th, 77th, and 5th Ave on Sat night 8:30pm.” We’re looking into this right now and will update this post as we fill in the details about what happened. For now,…

The Interlaken, February 13, 1903, p.3 A SUBURBAN QUESTION When Does a Dog Become a Public Nuisance? That is a pertinent question in Green Lake just now.  It’s also the same old question that has so many times been settled to the satisfaction of the dog-poisoner, but never acceptably to the public, and especially…

Tangletown's Meridian Market is struggling and needs your support

(This post originally appeared on Wallingford’s neighborhood blog Wallyhood.  It was written by Erin Leach-Kemon. Thanks Wallyhood and Erin!) Neighborhood Market Struggling, Needs Community Backing By Erin Leach-Kemon Fri, January 29, 2010 at 11:00 am In the coming weeks, Meridian Market—located in Tangletown, across from Zoka and Mighty-O’s—will distribute a notice with customer purchases: Customer headcount has plummeted 40 percent since last year, and the market’s looking for all the help they can get. Store owner, Wallace “Wally” Wright [Ed note: no relation to the blog] says he’s had no choice but to shorten store hours, cut staff and hold…

Show your support for the Green Lake Bathhouse

Your support is needed!  (And it will be easy – read on!) A small group of Green Lakers is rallying for a worthwhile cause: the Green Lake Bathhouse, a neighborhood treasure, is in dire need of upgrading. The bathhouse, located on the west side of the lake at 7312 West Green Lake Dr N, was constructed in 1928 as a place for modest folks to change from street clothes to beachwear. As modesty became less of concern, use of the bathhouse decreased.  In 1970, the Parks Department converted the building into a 130-seat theater.  The bathhouse continues to this day…
