Weekly workshop: Cultivating Your Writing Process/Growing the Garden of Yourself

Sometimes, we forget to listen to ourselves–to what our own heart and spirit have to say. Often, what is most important to us is also what is most ignored, because it feels too large and emotional, vague or ineffable, contentious or embarrassing, beautiful and indescribable, meaningless or insignificant. In fact, so much of what we know and feel hovers below the threshold of our consciousness. Writing is a powerful tool for connecting with what is deepest and most essential to us—and therefore utterly unique. This workshop is designed to unleash your imaginations and the fullness of who you are and how you see the world.

Various exercises help you to bypass habits and fears. Elements of craft, such as rhythm, imagery, character, and perspective, help you to deepen your personal relationship to language and exploit its expressive capacities. Writing, feedback and discussion all take place within an atmosphere of deep trust and mutual support. At root, we will be cultivating the belief that when we embrace our whole self in its astounding uniqueness and learn new ways of putting it forth, the world as a whole is enriched and fulfilled.
