Major changes to King County Metro

Major changes to King County Metro Our local public transit system is making some major changes in 2010. Along with the usual fare increase (its $0.25 this time), they’re also switching everything over to the new ORCA card system. I ordered mine and added a PugetPass online. It was fairly straightforward. If you usually use transit passes, you’ll need to get one of these new cards (unless you get them from your work – they’ll take care of it for you)….

Organizer of Green Lake Naked Pumpkin Run charged with indecent exposure in relation to West Seattle event

Remember the Green Lake Naked Pumpkin Run? The organizer of the the Naked Pumpkin Run has been charged with indecent exposure for the role he played in organizing a similar event in West Seattle. What are your thoughts? Are events like these (a.k.a. naked events) indecent?  Harmful to children who witness them?  Awesome performance art?  An important political statement? Are you looking forward to seeing these folks in Green Lake again next Halloween … or do you hope the long arm of the law reaches over here too?

Nathan Hale students burglarize Bishop Blanchet locker room

Happy Birthday, Woodland Park Zoo!

On December 28, 1899, the Seattle City Council officially signed the paperwork purchasing the 141 acres that would become Woodland Park Zoo and surrounding parkland. Once owned by real estate tycoon Guy Phinney, the land and its collection of animals had become a burden for his widow after Phinney died in 1893, so it was sold to the growing city for $100,000 to be developed into a park.
