A clothes dryer caused an electrical fire at 6309 Latona Ave NE this afternoon. Flames could not be seen from the street, but smoke filled the entire house and billowed out the top-floor windows, staining part of the exterior of the house black.

The Seattle Fire Department was dispatched at 12:17 p.m. They sent a large response from north-end and downtown stations (A5 AIR9 B4 B6 DEP1 E16 E22 E38 E9 L5 L8 M16 SAFT2 STAF10 A2 MAR5). Sirens could be heard by 12:19 p.m.

The residents of the single family home were not at home at the time of the fire. One resident arrived on the scene at about 12:45 p.m. The Seattle Fire Department Chaplain and a firefighter told her that the fire was likely electrical and appeared to have been caused by a clothes dryer. Items in the basement were severely damaged and the rest of the house underwent light smoke damage.

The fire did not spread beyond the house and nearby homes did not appear to suffer any smoke damage.
