Green Lake car prowls continue: Have you seen a black North Face backpack?

Car prowls are a continuing problem in Green Lake.

Commenter sdawn recently reported the following:

My car was broken into on 10/20/09.  I reported the incident immediately.  The officer told me that two other women had their cars broken onto that same day on the same block & that the perpetrator was probably watching me and saw me lock my purse IN MY TRUNK before I went skating at the lake.  2 hours later I skate back to my car, pop open my trunk & purse is GONE.  They jimmied my passenger door open, pulled my backseat down, grabbed my purse, and started using my credit cards all within 35 minutes of me leaving my car!!!!

We need to be so much more careful about what we leave in our cars anywhere!  THE VERY NEXT DAY, a woman had her car broken into on Queen Anne, and the perp tried to use both of our bank information simultaneously.   I was able to get a hold of her and obviously the same perp broke into both of our cars & stole our purses  in broad daylight, one day apart, in two different neighborhoods.

Katie reports that her friend’s car was broken into at E Green Lake Drive N at Corliss Ave N:

My friend and I are one of the many folks who have had a car broken into at greenlake. It happened yesterday, November 1, 2009. Her car window was smashed in and my backpack was stolen. Nothing of particular value to anyone but me was in the backpack… but if you see it ditched somewhere I would be most grateful if you let me know. It is a black northface backpack. It had a poketo tshirt in it, some gloves, vitamins, a bottle of perscription medication (levothyroxine)… Thanks so much!!

This should be a lesson to all. I try very hard to never put stuff in the trunk after parking, especially purses or laptop bags. Always hide your stuff in the trunk BEFORE you drive away from your PREVIOUS location! So that when you park, you simply leave the car without visibly broadcasting exactly what you're trying to "hide." If I'm already on my way somewhere, I will often pull over to the curb well before my final parking spot, move stuff into the trunk, and then continue to the destination. Yes, it seems like more trouble, but it quickly becomes habit. And nobody's prowled my car...yet...

Seriously, avoid leaving any visible bag in your passenger compartment. When people look in my car windows, they see nothing tempting.
