MGL advertiser Cook Local celebrates a local Thankgiving

If you’re a fan of the local (Green Lake based!) food blog Cook Local, than you know that authors Patricia and John are reallllllly into Thanksgiving.  Indeed, they’ve been getting ready for some time now, since way before even Canadian Thankgiving hit the calendar.

Patricia and John make it their mission to limit themselves to food found in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and British Columbia.  With very few exceptions, they manage to pull it off, and pull it off in style.  It looks as though Thanksgiving will be no different:

We have pledged to have a completely local Thanksgiving with the following exceptions.  We will use salt, that’s a given. And John’s Merme’s stuffing requires Bell’s Poultry Seasoning. Beyond that, there might be a little baking powder or yeast that we can’t get locally, and there will be sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg for the pie.

Check out Cook Local’s Thankgiving menu here.  Mmmmmm Sweet Potato Souffle.

Local sweet potatoes?  Yep.

We were the first in the city to report that sweet potatoes are available at the local farmers markets and we can confirm they should be around another couple of weeks at the University District Farmers Market. However, they sell out early so get there before noon for best selection.

Cook Local will be posting one Thanksgiving recipe a week until November 1st, when they will begin posting either one or two recipes a week.  A few are available from last year as well.  Find them all here.
