Reports of two more muggings in Green Lake

What do you think? (No Comments) September 11, 2009 at 1:04AM

Extremely loud police helicopters could be heard in the Green Lake neighborhood shortly before midnight on Thursday.  Several residents were awoken, as evidenced by heavy tweeting on the topic.

Thanks to our tweeps, we have received first-person accounts of what sound to be two more incidents of muggings, following on the heels of the muggings that took place early Tuesday morning.

Here is what we’ve pieced together so far, based on the reports of @Lynne73 and @prat:

At around 11:20 p.m, a man was mugged by three men with a gun on the east side of the lake.  By 11:24, the victim had found two pedestrians with a cell phone just north of the light at East Green Lake Way N and N 64th St, and was dialing 9-1-1. After the call, the two pedestrians began to head home, and along the way they saw a group of people talking to police just south of Evans Pool. It appeared as though this group of people had been mugged as well.

The police at the lake were also spotted by @mattjoss, who reported seeing four police cars, including one parked on the walking path. The helicopter was overhead, “search lights blazing.”

In addition, we heard from @horseknuckle that a police car was stopped, lights flashing, at Wallingford Ave N and N 55th St around midnight. It is not yet known if this police activity was related to the reported muggings at the lake.

The helicopters continued to hover over the area until a few minutes past midnight.

If anyone has any information about any of these incidents, please contact 9-1-1.
