Mike McGinn visits Green Lake

What do you think? (3 Comments) September 26, 2009 at 9:43PM

Looks like we weren’t the only ones who couldn’t make it to the library this afternoon to see mayoral candidate Mike McGinn town-hall-it-up.

Never fear, twitter’s here! Thanks to @mcginnformayor and @deehr, we can form a pretty good composite sketch of what went down:

Q: The budget?
A: We need to do more with less, and part of that is empowering community groups to solve problems.

Q: The Internet?
A: Broadband is no longer something that is just nice to have. It is now essential infrastructure. Seattle will profit from advances in this area.

Q: Why should an undecided voter vote for McGinn?
A: McGinn is anti-tunnel, pro-light-rail, and has a history of working with diverse groups to create change.

Q: Climate change?
A: McGinn is very passionate about climate issues. He thinks that walkable communities and green infrastructure are key.

Q: What about the mayor/council relationship?
A: McGinn has a history of collaboration with the council.

Q: The tunnel?
A: Not a done deal.

P.S. Don’t mean to go all McGinn Mania on ya. We’d be equally rah-rah if Mallahan came on by. Much like the neighborhood as a whole, we’re not firmly set on one candidate or the other (yet).

Convince us! Put that comment section to work, local-politics aficionados!

I made it to the Green Lake library to see Mike McGinn and was very impressed. He has vision, sincerity, a proven track record as a change agent, and is an environmentalist. He loves Seattle and has good ideas for making it even more livable! I went in truly undecided (probably leaning toward Mallahan, to be honest) and came out a McGinn fan. I'll be trying to track down a town hall with Mallahan but since reading more about McGinn since yesterday, I am likely to stay in McGinn's camp.
I'm so glad I went. It was a lovely sunny day and I had other things to do, but in the end it was very worthwhile!
