Meet Green Lake residents (and fab locavores) Patricia and John, creators of Cook Local
As we’ve mentioned before, there’s a whole lot of awesomeness going on around here.
Case in point: Cook Local, the home of all things food and local … and fast becoming one of Seattle’s favorite online destinations.
We first noticed Cook Local on twitter. Patricia and John, Cook Local’s creators, are extremely prolific tweeters (hey, takes one to know one). Reading their twitter feed is like attending a dinner party comprised of the Who’s Who of the Seattle foodie world, and it’s kinda a thrill to watch Patricia and John discuss chick de-boning with the likes of Becky Selengut and Lorraine Goldberg.
After a bit of twitter-stalking, it started to dawn on us that Cook Local was, uh, local. Like, really local, right here, in fabulous Green Lake. (Witness: today, a plea to neighbors with edible flowers. Actually, it might not be too late to help them out, so if you’ve got some extra nasturtiums, drop them a line).
Yep, Patricia confirms, they’re Green Lakers. If you’re out for a run around the lake, she explains, head down the shade plaza, keep on going past Starbucks and right over I-5, and you’ll find yourself at Cook Local HQ. (Seriously, would anyone else but a Green Laker describe how to get somewhere based on (a) a running route and (b) Starbucks?).
Over at Cook Local HQ, Patricia and John seem to spend every spare moment fulfilling their quest for local ingredients, which they then whip up into deliciousness. Happily, they share not only their original recipes, but also where the food was procured, consistently gorgeous photographs of the final product, and some acompanying personal (and always charming) narrative. See, for example, today’s post: Baked and Stuffed Peppers. And, try to resist Watermelon Marninated Salmon. Black Beans with Rosemary and Feta Cheese. Strawberry-Rhubarb Muffins.
Wondering where to buy a particular ingredient while still keepin’ it local? This is the place to go. Looking for a list of Seattle restaurants (including Duke’s, yay!) that source their meat and seafood ethically? Here. What to do with the contents of this week’s CSA box? Yup.
So, uh, yeah, we kinda have a crush on Cook Local. Which is why we were super ecstatic when they asked us if they could advertise on My Green Lake. Hmmmm, let’s think about that for just a minute. YES. If we can get paid in Buttermilk Rhubarb Cake, hell yes.
