Green Lake Gobble 5K & Mashed Potato Munch Off

Did anyone else catch that awesome Man v. Food marathon that was on last night? Major props to Adam for tackling the 12-egg omelet at Green Lake’s own Beth’s Cafe. Woot Woot!

In other face-stuffing news, we just caught word of Green Lake’s “first competitive eating contest”! Yes!

Just in time for Thanksgiving and NEW this year, Seattle’s own Green Lake Gobbler 5K! Burn some calories at this 5K run/walk event prior to Thanksgiving [Sunday, November 22, beginning at 9:30 a.m.] and bring some canned food to support those in need.

The Mashed Potato Munch Off: Welcome to Green Lake’s first competitive eating contest. Purchase a raffle ticket for $1 and then wait to see onsite if you are one of the eight (un)lucky people who get selected to compete in this competitive eating event. All eight contestants will compete head to head to see who can eat the most mashed potatoes within five minutes time. A winner will be crowned, given some prize money and will additionally win a life-time entry into the Green Lake Gobbler 5K event (for as long as it exists). We’re taking a guess on an age requirement for this event and ruling that you must be over the age of 18 to compete

Wow - got a response from Pro Motion Events already! Here's the deets:

"Other than accepting food donations, we do not have a charity for the Gobble in 2009. As a first year event and from experience, we expect the event to lose money or (hopefully) at best break even, which is typical. Hopefully the event will gain momentum in which case we will look at a charity in future years. Considering thre nature of the event and the time of year, we will probably continue with food banks for charities."

Great question, SW. We've emailed the event promoters and will let you know if we hear anything!

Does the 5K raise funds for a nonprofit organization? Or, is the only donation the canned food? I don't see this information on their website.
