Breaking news!  Ric of Turnpike Pizza, which as been open one week today, just announced that he will be hosting a Grand Opening party this Sunday, September 13, and he will be offering free sample slices all day. And, write a review on Yelp and/or Citysearch, and get a free cannoli!

We have already been stuffing ourselves on this pizza, and let me tell you, it is ROCKIN.

Check out pizza-nerd -aficionado Nic’s yelp review:

This place just opened up Wednesday so I thought I would give it a try. I consider myself a pizza fanatic having tried a slide of pepperoni at just about every place in Seattle I get a good feel for the crust, cheese and sauce flavors.

Crust wise Turnpike’s pizza is pretty thin style as pizzas go, not quite New York giant fold-in half size, still something that is manageable with a single hand and no folding but thin enough that you’ll need to support the end from flopping down. The edge of the pizza crust had a nice bubbly doughy thickness to it, not too spongy not too crisp. Overall I think the crust is just perfect.

The sauce is pretty good, a nice subtle mix of herbs, nothing too plain or too spicy. They also didn’t lay on the sause too much so the cheese and toppings didn’t slide off on first bite, which is probably more than the ultra thin nearly non-exitant coat of red sauce you get at other places in town. Overall, pretty good sauce, about what you’d expect.

The cheese is pretty nondescript on this pizza. It’s there and you will get hints of it as you eat your slices, but its not super sharp. Moderate level of grease on the slices from the cheese, but no pools of grease here. I suppose if I ordered something other than pepperoni I might have had a different experience with the cheese.

The staff was very nice and friendly, tho they are still learning the ropes a little as the business gets going. This is to be expected, but I am sure within a few days things will be running like a well oiled machine. The manager came out to help and even offered me up a free slice of their Italian Sausage which I happily took. The have a selection of beer, fountain drinks and ofter a two slice combo to offer.

The location is prime real estate right off Greenlake near where it intersects with Ravenna. Look close, you may miss them, they haven’t had a chance to put up their sign yet. [note: the sign is now up!] The place has plenty of small table seating and a clean vibe. A great place to go to grab a slice, get under some shade and people watch as everyone goes by on Greenlake. Four days into business and they seem to be doing be hitting all the right marks here, can’t wait to see them flourish as more people learn about the place.
