We’re super-happy that the muggers are locked up and that the white powder was just, uh, baking soda or something, but … damn! Make the car prowling stop!
Sadly, we have more incidents to add to the growing list of burglarized cars:
Commenter alittlebirdie reports the following:
I had my car prowled on Monday Sept. 14th in broad daylight at the Greenlake PCC parking lot during peak shopping hours, 5pm. There was no sign of forced entry but there was a dirty old screwdriver left in my car which I still have. I believe that whomever did this was watching me before I went into the store, maybe from inside another vehicle, and possibly working with another person who was the lookout because it happened very quickly with many shoppers around. Never leave anything valuable in your car, even if it’s not visible. (I don’t even want to keep my jumper cables or box of snow chains in the car anymore.).
So far none of my things have showed up. Thanks for posting the parks and rec number, I called GLCC and the grounds keepers office but nothing has showed up. They told me that the trash is collected every day so if my stuff was put into a park trash can it’s long gone now. (That’s ok but I would like my glasses back.)
BK shared this:
While I was out of town, my driver side window was smashed on Sunday, September 6 just south of 90th on Nesbit Ave. Nothing of value was in my car so nothing was stolen. The battery was dead too.
Not on the south or east side of the lake, but might this be connected?
Finally, this report from annekelly:
I run the childcare center for the Green Lake Church (located at 6350 East Green Lake Way North) and I am writing to let you all know that I believe we are being targeted for car prowls. In the last week two of our families have had their cars broken into. Please be careful, the police tell us that there is not much we can do, maybe start a block watch? Any thoughts on this?
I have temporarily posted large yellow signs stating that cars have been broken into. I have also hired someone to watch over families as they drop off and pick up their children as a safety measure.
So, how about it, Green Lakers? Anne has suggested a block watch program for the area around the Green Lake Church (coincidentally, the location of one of the muggings). Any takers?
Anybody want to share information about an active block watch program elsewhere in the neighborhood?
Please stay safe, and, please, keep an eye out for your neighbors as well.
