Y’know, there are some pretty cool people living in Green Lake.
We received a thanks from Bay Anapol, local author, for sharing information about Spanish Lessons Guy, whom she describes as “a terrific character.” Once we heard she was an author, we wanted to know more.
Bay, who is currently working on a novel, lives on the East side of the lake with her mutt Brutto (but she’s in the market for a new place in the neighborhood, so if you’re looking for a renter, we would be happy to pass on a note!). Her work has been featured in The Pushcart Prize XXV: Best of the Small Presses, as well as the The O. Henry Prize Stories 2007, which contains her amazing story “A Stone House.” Trust us, this is the kind of story that sticks with your for days. Bay wrote the following about the story:
Copyright Bay Anapol | Used with permission
The story began as an ode to a wonderful stone house for sale near Bisbee, Arizona, a house a fell in love with the way I used to fall in love with men — captivated by beauty and a vague sense of destiny. Now I know enough about real estate to assume that the place probably suffered from a leaky roof or fire-ant infestation, but it remains golden in my memory, and I later uprooted it from the desert to a beach in the south of France. I think the house would have liked that.
