I tried mapping where the car break-ins are happening… http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&msa=0&ms…

I'm starting to wonder what the police are up to. With that many crimes on consecutive days in a small area one would think that they might get caught.

  • grlkmom

Correction – the latest break-in was at 63rd and Corliss, not 61st and Corliss.

  • mygreenlake

Thanks for clarifying, grlkmom! The post has been updtated to read “N 63rd and Corliss Ave N.”

OK, don't get me wrong here. I think break-ins are lame and annoying. BUUUUT… Really folks, don't leave any valuables in sight sitting in your car!!!! I'm not saying you're asking for it, but in a way, if there are 10 cars on a block and one of them has a GPS on the dashboard, they're going to get broken into by the thief.

The break-ins are a problem, and they need to be stopped, and people need to be accountable for their crimes — but leaving the valuables in plain sight is certainly not making the crime rate go down…

While I was out of town, my driver side window was smashed on Sunday, September 6 just south of 90th on Nesbit Ave. Nothing of value was in my car so nothing was stolen. The battery was dead too.
Not on the south or east side of the lake, but might this be connected?

  • mygreenlake

Sorry to hear that, BK! Glad nothing was stolen, but what a hassle (and expense) nonetheless …

Add one more to the tally. I had my caw prowled on Monday Sept. 14th in broad daylight at the Greenlake PCC parking lot during peak shopping hours, 5pm. There was no sign of forced entry but there was a dirty old screwdriver left in my car which I still have. I believe that whomever did this was watching me before I went into the store, maybe from inside another vehicle, and possibly working with another person who was the lookout because it happened very quickly with many shoppers around. Never leave anything valuable in your car, even if it's not visible. (I don't even want to keep my jumper cables or box of snow chains in the car anymore.)

I was told by a friend today that there have been multiple incidents of car prowlings at Green Lake Preschool (6350 East Green Lake Way in the Greenlake Church). Valuables were taken from the cars when parents were walking their children in to school. Broad daylight.
