Pigs Peace Sanctuary: A Safe Haven of Love for Pigs and their Friends is holding its annual Walk for Animals this weekend. Register now and hit your friends and family up to sponsor you. Your $15 registration fee scores you a Walk for Pigs Peace t-shirt. Free t-shirt!! (Free because your $15 goes directly to the pigs, so don’t consider it a t-shirt fee).
Check-in starts at 10:30am on Saturday on the south side of the Community Center. The walk starts at 11am and is one to two loops around the lake, lasting one to two hours.
Pigs Peace Sanctuary encourages you to bring the whole family and have a picnic after the walk. While the Greenlake Bar & Grill’s Bacon-Cheddar Cod Sandwich (Crispy Alaskan Cod, cheddar cheese, bacon, red onion, tomato, and dill-tartar sauce on Ciabatta roll. $10.99) is delicious, we advise against eating bacon today. Those pigs have a lot of friends of various species so maybe opt for the equally tasty Garden Burger (Garden patty with dill Havarti cheese, avocado, lettuce, tomato, pickel, red onion, and pesto mayo on a Ciabatta roll. $10.99).
Fantastic Prizes will be raffled after the walk (around 12:30pm). A raffle ticket will be given to each walker for every $20 that they have raised!
Prizes include:
- Gift Certificate for 2 at Araya’s lunch buffet
- Gift Certificate for one drink, one entree and one dessert at Chaco Canyon Cafe
- Gift Bag filled with assorted items from Portage Bay Goods in Fremont: $64 Value
- Lavender Body Wash and Vegetarian Vitamins from Pharmaca in Wallingford
Enjoy some treats at the walk:
- Starbucks Coffee
- Mighty O Donuts
- Uncle Eddie’s Cookies
- Fresh Apples
- Water will be provided
Not convinced the pigs need your help yet? Scroll down to the Meet our Friends section in the left column of the site and choose your favorite pig. Warning: it’s hard to choose. We like Bunny. No, Allison. No, Winston! Maybe Morton. Or Sophia. No, definitely Morton–he’s our fave. Sweet Morton has passed on to muddier pigsties, but the other pigs are eager to meet you. Unfortunately, you can’t meet them right now. The Sanctuary is under a quarantine thanks to the swine flu. So keep an eye on the visiting page to see when it’s safe to head up to volunteer or visit and hug your favorite pig.
