The Poetess at Green Lake

What do you think? Comments Off August 20, 2009 at 12:24AM

Remember that awesome woman who used to sit, every Sunday at the lake, at a little table marked “POET” in big sparkly letters?

Well, if you miss seeing her as much as we do: happy day! She is alive and kicking, doing amazing things in Seattle’s art + lit worlds. In fact, she’ll be downtown at SAM tonight:

SAM Word: A.K. “Mimi” Allin
From Art Criticism to Poetry in Five Strokes
August 20, 2009
7:30–8:30 pm
Third Floor Galleries

A.K. “Mimi” Allin, the Poetess at Green Lake, curates poetry-infused “instigations” in SAM’s downtown galleries. During this event, “sumi-e art criticisms” will be distributed to ten poets. Each poet will have three or four works to consider. Poets will sit in the gallery where SAM Next: Corin Hewitt is on view, weighing gesture against text, turning each criticism into a poem. Afterward, they will explain their methods. They will not read their poems. They’ll drop their poems to the floor and go on working. The poets’ explanations will be broadcast in the Brotman Forum.

Featuring everyone from spoken word poets to literary figures, these evenings of words as art are at once intimate and engaging.

Free with museum admission.
