Roller Derby Yard Sale and BBQ

What do you think? (6 Comments) August 19, 2009 at 3:11PM

If you’re worried walking for peaceful pigs Saturday morning will leave you hungry for something a little rougher, consider the yard sale and BBQ put on by the Tilted Thunder Rail Birds. The BBQ will have both meat and veggie options so you can keep it real for the pigs and their friends all day long.

10:00am – 4:00pm
710 N. 59th Street

More about TTRB:

Tilted Thunder is an all-female start up banked track roller derby league based out of Seattle. We are a non-profit organization owned and operated “by the skaters and for the skaters”.

We are committed to raising awareness and promoting the sport of women’s roller derby especially banked track derby. TTRB is comprised of like-minded, strong, intelligent and determined women from all walks of life who share a goal of emotional growth and physical strength through challenging ourselves beyond that which we ever thought we could accomplish.

We, as a league, promote mental and physical empowerment, development of skills, encouragement of friendship, individuality, and loyalty on and off the track and throughout the entire sport locally and nationally.

I really don't appreciate the weird sarcastic(?) tone you're giving these posts. The first post on pigs for peace was a little iffy with mentioning bacon and cheese, given it's a vegan organization, but this post is basically saying, “Well, if you really want to eat pigs after donating time and money to this wonderful organization, here's your chance!”

Roller derby is enjoying a resurgence around the country. For some perspective as to why, check out this short video — ahamoment.com/pg/moments/view/5312 — about the “aha moment” of a young woman who credits roller derby for saving her soul.
