Update: Read about the meeting.

Thanks, Pennie, for the reminder about the street mural meeting in a week (Thursday, July 9th at 6:30pm, 8023 Green Lake Dr N.–Bethany Community Church, CE Auditorium):

Hello Neighbors!

Here’s a great way to spend some of your creative energy this summer! Whether you generate design ideas, help in deciding on the details of the project, or just come for the fun of painting the street (or any combination of the above), we want your input and involvement!

Sustainable Green Lake and Bethany Community Church are partnering to do a street painting on Stone Avenue between the church buildings. This is right where Sustainable Green Lake has been holding its meetings. We think this is a great way to create a grand entrance for SGL meetings, thank BCC, develop further partnerships in the community, and contribute to and enliven the neighborhood. We hope you will join us and spread the word!

Right now we are seeking design ideas. All of the info is on the postcard. If you can help spread the word, it would be much appreciated! You can direct questions to Megan Horst (414-350-6093 or megan@sustainableseattle.org).

In addition to the guidelines listed on the postcard, the size of the painting will depend on design ideas and general consensus of those involved. Per city guidelines, we can paint on a mid-block anywhere on the driving surface (meaning not curbs) and no closer than 20 feet from stop signs. Since Stone Avenue is pretty long, we may choose to do a big painting, a small one, a series of paintings, etc. There is some street parking there that is sometimes occupied, but the mural can take up that space if we want it to.

We are looking for a few more people to be on the selection committee. If you are interested, let Megan know. The committee will include church members, immediate neighbors, members of Sustainable Green Lake, and perhaps you!

(Just to be clear, although SGL is collaborating with BCC on leading this project and gratefully meets at their site, we are not affiliated with the church in any way. SGL welcomes people of all–or no–faiths.)
