There were a lot of great submissions for Green Lake’s new street mural at the Sustainable Green Lake meeting tonight. No clear winner, though, so further submissions and ideas are welcome. See the flyer for more information or contact Megan Horst (414-350-6093 or megan@sustainableseattle.org) with any questions.
Eric Higbee, spearheader of Wallingford’s ladybug street mural attended the meeting and gave this valuable tip: the design should be simple, graphic, and fun. A representative from SDOT also attended to show support and hopefully help ensure a speedy approval from the city. Wallingford’s ladybug was the first street mural in the city so they had to contend with a lot of back-and-forth with the city to get the project kicked off, but their hard work paved the way for future street murals.
Sustainable Green Lake is hoping to get painting in August or September. Next steps are to choose the design, get approval of the design from the city, apply for grants, get paint (hopefully free or at a discount).

In related news, the Wallingford ladybug (located at 49th and Burke Ave N.) is getting its annual repainting tomorrow evening, starting at 5pm (though the paint brushes probably won’t come out until 6pm). In years past this has been a fun event with lots of community involvement. Consider coming out to get inspired for our upcoming painting party.

Think twice. The painting in Wallingford is an eyesore that severely detracts from the neighborhood.
I’m wondering if there has been any update on this. I love all types of street and Wall murals and would love to be involved in one or even make my own when I find enough time and the right place. I did make one when I was younger but someone ruined it by putting ugly graffiti all over it.
