More Green Lake Crime Reported: Fight on Evening of July 21st
What is up with the area around the Bathhouse Theater? In addition to the shooting and stabbing a couple of nights back, Slog is now reporting that there was a fight near the Bathhouse last Tuesday night:

According to a recently released police report, problems at Green Lake are no longer limited the occasional visible penis.
According to somewhat-sketchy details from a heavily-redacted police report, four young adults told police they were swimming near the Bathhouse Theater at Green Lake Park on July 21st around 10:00 p.m., when “someone from a group of about 14 other people threw a beer can at someone.” A fight broke out and, the report says, an 18-year-old male struck three of the witnesses in the face, knocking one of the young men unconscious. Another woman in the group was also struck in the face by an unidentified assailant.
According the report, the large group later retreated to a house party in the area but police were able to identify a suspect after one of the teens told police they recognized the 18-year-old assailant from their high school.
When police contacted the 18-year-old, he told officers he had been swimming but suspiciously noted he hadn’t touched “him,” prior to officers identifying the victim of the assault. The young man further stated that he had a bunch of witnesses that could testify his non-involvement in the fight. The case remains open and no one has been arrested.

A couple of the comments following the post caught our attention as well:
I was at Greenlake earlier today. Some bald muscley dude was being lectured by a lifeguard. Apparently he had cussed out a little kid aggressively moments earlier.

I don’t understand this post. Apparently, it’s all, “Ha ha, look at these ‘crimes’ at Green Lake, which thinks it’s part of the city now.”Apparently, two people were shot at the Bathhouse Theater last night. Link: http://www.mygreenlake.com/2009/07/shoot…

Mr. Myron has an interesting point. The Slog post does seem to include an implicit chuckle about the general tameness of Green Lake crime. A week ago we would have laughed along. Since then, in addition to the violence on Sunday night, there was also that armed robbery on Thursday night.
Check out this tweet, posted earlier today by @ozinn:
Reading tweets from @MyGreenLake is kinda freaking me out. A shooting + stabbing last night AND an explosion? In my new neighborhood? Crap.

Any theories as to what’s going on with this sudden upturn in crime? The heat, or…?
BTW, Thanks for the links back to MGL, Echoes and ozinn! ♥

Seattle Public Theater, the company in residence at the Bathhouse, has been having lots of problems with graffiti and vandalism to the building as well.
My car was broken into at Greenlake on 10/20/09. I reported the incident and the officer told me that when I put my purse in my trunk before skating the lake, the perpetrator was probably watching me. They broke into my car, stole my purse out of my trunk and started using my credit cards all within 35 minutes of me leaving my car to skate.
My car was broken into on 10/20/09. I reported the incident immediately. The officer told me that two other women had their cars broken onto that same day on the same block & that the perpetrator was probably watching me and saw me lock my purse IN MY TRUNK before I went skating at the lake. 2 hours later I skate back to my car, pop open my trunk & purse is GONE. They jimmied my passenger door open, pulled my backseat down, grabbed my purse, and started using my credit cards all within 35 minutes of me leaving my car!!!! We need to be so much more careful about what we leave in our cars anywhere! THE VERY NEXT DAY, a woman had her car broken into on Queen Anne, and the perp tried to use both of our bank information simultaneously. I was able to get a hold of her and obviously the same perp broke into both of our cars & stole our purses in broad daylight, one day apart, in two different neighborhoods.
