Green Lake Library Welcomes Wallingford Patrons

Welcome neighbors! The Wallingford branch of the Seattle Public Library will be closed Saturday, June 27th through Monday, September 7th for refurbishing. Wallingford patrons can select any branch as an alternate, but if they don’t specify one, their holds will be sent to the Green Lake branch, 7364 E. Green Lake Dr. N., (206) 684-7547. They should be used to the same confusing weekday hours (anyone else repeatedly show up before 1pm on Mondays expecting to get in?), but they’re gonna love having access on Sundays. Our Chocolati might be a bit farther from the ‘brary than theirs, but otherwise…

Open Water Swim in Four Days

Four days and counting until we take the plunge. There are still 39 spots available for the 1/2 mile swim and 49 spots available for the mile swim. The price is $40 ($35 youth/senior/special) and you get a t-shirt and cap, and most likely no rash. We attended the Friends of Green Lake monthly meeting last night to hear the latest on the water quality and temperature and everything looks good! So grab one of those final spots while you can.

Submit Your Street Mural Ideas

Green Lake is getting a street mural! Street murals add beauty to a neighborhood, bring neighbors together for a fun project, empower the community to creatively and responsibly steward our public places, and calm traffic. Check out the ladybug at 49th and Burke Ave N. in Wallingford to see one for yourself. Anyone can participate in the initial stage of this co-creative, collaborative process. Facilitated by the conveners, the first meeting on July 9th will yield emergent design parameters and a plan for next steps to finalize a great design for our community. Join the Summer Bike League

We see you riding your bike to the PCC or taking a quick loop around the lake on your way to the library. Make those miles count–register for Cascade Bicycle Club’s Summer Bike League now! This isn’t some hoity toity commuter contest. Biking to work counts, but so does errand running and leisure riding. Starting tomorrow, June 23rd, and through Sunday September 20th log any and all miles you bike. Yeah yeah yeah, you’ll avoid those rising gas prices, reduce global warming, cut down local traffic congestion, and improve your health, but most importantly you get to select your neighborhood….
